STEM Class To Run Pi Day 5K/10K

This is a cool story:

We were contacted by a middle school teacher from Casa Grande, Arizona about how she was encouraging her STEM students to run the Pi Day race coming up. All in all, she was able to get more than 30 participants signed up and they are excited to be running next week. She said,

The reason I decided to pursue this was not only because I teach math and love math and pi day, but also because I am a runner. I only started running a year and a half ago. In that time I have ran 5 half marathons, 1 full marathon, 1 Ragnar relay, 1 15k and countless 5K’s. I LOVE running just as much as I LOVE math. I hope to inspire kids to get into running. Every time I run and tell them my stories I ask them, “Did I inspire anyone to run today.” Most kids just laugh at me, however, with 33 kids signing up, I would have to say that I am making progress.

We agree! You’re making progress and helping these students excel in and out of school with useful education for their (and society’s) future as well as helping them live a healthy life. Keep it up!!

STEM is short for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education and is preparing youth to thrive in the merging of these fields as they grow. If you’d like to learn more about STEM, click here.

Good luck to the students and teachers running next week! Way to go!
